Medical Physics Residency
How to Apply
To apply, you first need to register as a candidate through the National Matching Services (NMS) Inc. The deadline for receipt of all application materials is in December.
Match 2026: One PGY-2 position to begin July 1, 2027
Prospective applicants need to meet the requirements set forth in standards 3.1 and 3.2 of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Program, Inc. (CAMPEP).

Required application materials include:
- Personal information (name, address, contact information)
- ABR certification status
- Disclosure of criminal behavior, academic violations and/or licensure actions
- Employment history
- Military service history (if applicable)
- Education (undergraduate and graduate)
- Names of three references (including one from current advisor or department head)
- Personal statement (max. 3000 characters) indicating why you want to go into medical physics, and anything else you want to communicate to the applications reviewers (this is instead of a cover letter)
- Uploaded CV listing awards, publications, presentations, community service and citizenship (Please indicate US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Alien and Visa type/exp. date)
- Transcripts and a copy of TOEFL results (if applicable)
- Can be uploaded, or

- Foreign nations (not U.S. Citizens or permanent residents) require a J-1 Visa sponsorship for admission to the U.S. for residency/fellowship training
- NOTE: UC Davis will not consider H-1B Visas sponsorship at this time
Our program participates in the National Resident Match Program (NRMP).
Interview Process
The radiation oncology residency program uses the Thalamus interview scheduling platform to host our virtual interview days. A virtual meet and greet with our residents will be offered to available candidates the day prior to the interview.
Interview Day Information
Selected candidates can expect to receive the Thalamus email notification with invitation letter and access to the interview schedule. The interview schedule hours will be set to the Pacific Standard Time Zone (PST).
Each candidate may be assigned up to eight 15-minute interview sessions with a five-minute break between interviews. Candidates will interview with internal department personnel, including but not limited to faculty, staff, and residents. The schedule will include opening/closing remarks with the program director along with a resident led program presentation with time for Q and A. Total time is subject to change based on schedule.
