Philosophy of Care

Dr. Zhang has a personalized approach to aid each patient. With attentive supervision to patients neurological response, he uniquely designs each patients care plan to achieve their best quality of symptom management, believing that this will improve their quality of life.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Zhang's clinical and research interests focus primarily on Parkinson's disease, including its epidemiology and the association between past nutritional deficiency and current prevalence of the disease. He is testing new drugs and gene therapy with neuroprotective properties that may slow down the progression of Parkinson's. Dr. Zhang’s practice also specializes in functional neurology focusing on the implantation and management of deep brain stimulation. He is well versed in latest research in neuromodulation, and oversees the DBS candidacy evaluation to postsurgery programming proccess. He works extensively with national and international collaborators in translational research in neurodegeneration and fellowship training programs. He is investigating the clinical manifestation of the disease in patients with atypical Parkinson's disease, and those with a family history of pre-mutation for fragile X syndrome, a genetic disorder that typically affects children. Additionally, Dr. Zhang specializes in botulinum toxin (Botox) treatments for a variety of conditions, including, but not limited to, dystonia, spasticity and tremor. He uses electric muscle testing when giving Botox injections to improve accuracy and gain maximal results.

Research/Academic Interests

As a fellowship trained neurologist sub-specializing in movement disorders and Experimental Therapeutics, Dr. Zhang has a primary clinical and research interest in Parkinson's disease (PD). He also has a related interest in neuromodulation with Deep Brain Stimulation therapy.
