    Relax and Release: Progressive Muscle Relaxation

    “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes…Including you.” –Anne Lamott

    Taking time to relax is vital to our health, well-being and optimal functioning. Learn how to activate your body’s natural relaxation response by exploring a self-calming skill through experiential exercises. Presented by Neesha Patel of Staff and Faculty Health and Well-being. Each session explores a different topic.

    Tai Chi with Erika

    "Tai Chi Chuan” is a gentle meditation in motion and is both an exercise and martial art. These sessions are held three days a week: Mondays and Wednesdays in-person on the Davis Campus, and Fridays over Zoom.     Active Aggies: Pilates/Yoga Fusion with Sherry

    Join your fellow UC Davis community members for a free pilates/yoga "Piyo" class led by a UC Living Fit Forever instructor. The class will take place at the Student Community Center, Meeting Room D. PiYo combines the strength training and body lengthening aspects of Pilates with the core strengthening and stretching elements of Yoga. Designed to bring a sweat, this is a low-impact class appropriate for all levels. 

    Pre-registration is required for Monday classes. A waiver is also required for attendance. Waivers will be available at each class or email Hs-uclivingfitforever@ucdavis.edu

    Live Mindfulness Meditation

    Mindfulness meditation is the art and science of paying attention, on purpose with openness, curiosity and a willingness to be with experience as it is – it has been found to promote resilience and well-being. This session will include a guided meditation, led by Neesha Patel, and an opportunity to connect with fellow practitioners. No prior experience with mindfulness is necessary – all are welcome. 

    Mindfulness Meditation will be held from March 6 through May 22. No session on Monday, April 10. One-time registration covers all Monday sessions.

    Active Aggies: Bootcamp with Samie

    Join your fellow UC Davis community members for a free bootcamp class led by a UC Living Fit Forever instructor at the Cowell Building Lobby. Bootcamp incorporates intervals of cardiovascular and strength training activities using resistance and body weight meant to build strength and endurance in the entire body. Equipment such as dumbbells (provided) and a mat may be used.

    UC Davis Farmers Market

    Stop by  the Student Community Center and grab some locally grown fruit or veggies, locally baked goods, honey, and more. Take a break and enjoy the beautiful weather while connecting with friends and supporting local agriculture. A CalFresh representative will be present, and those who are enrolled in CalFresh can receive up to $10 in Market Match funds. Visit the information booth for assistance. Cash, card, and Aggie Cash are all accepted at the market.

    Sheepmowers

    Grazing lawnscape management uses plant-munching livestock, most popularly goats and sheep, to manage areas ranging from wild grasslands to urban lawnscapes. UC Davis researchers have found health wellness benefits are associated with urban sheep grazing. Sheep will graze in front of Wickson Hall for three days during National Public Health Week.

This class utilizes dumbbells and resistance bands to increase physical strength through weight-bearing and resistance exercise. All major muscle groups are worked from head to toe. A mat may be needed for floor work and stretching.

    Sessions will be held Wednesdays, March 15 through May 31, from 12:30-1 p.m. No session held on Wednesday, April 12.

    Join your fellow UC Davis community members for a free barre class led by a UC Living Fit Forever instructor at the Cowell Building Lobby. Barre is designed to be a full-body, muscle endurance workout that focuses on major muscle groups including the arms, legs, glutes, and core. The class is inspired by elements of ballet, yoga, and Pilates and focuses on low-impact, high-intensity movements. A mat may be needed for floor work.

    This collaboration between prolific opera superstar J’Nai Bridges, and Grammy Award-winning drummer, music director, and educator, Ulysses Owens Jr. is a musical journey exploring the idea of hope rooted in the deep relationship between the voice and the drum. The program will highlight music tied to the African American experience, with works by Debussy, Ellington, Ravel, Geri Allen, spirituals, and original work from Bridges and Owens.
