UC Davis Health understands construction can have an impact on nearby neighbors. To better inform residents about upcoming work outside of regular hours information will be posted to this webpage.

Please note that schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions and resource availability. The construction teams remain committed to maintaining the presented timelines to the best of their ability. 

After-Hour Construction Activity 

Project Name: California Tower

  • Work Location: X and 45th Streets
  • Work Being Conducted: Hydrovac excavation underneath the South Construction Elevator.
  • Work Date(s): Monday, August 17, 2026
  • Time Frame: 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. 
  • Important Project Notes: The elevator is used as a main entrance for personnel and materials into the tower. For this reason, the work is being conducted after hours as the elevator cannot be shut down during normal site hours.
    • Potential noise from Hydrovac excavation truck. Noise mitigation measures will be implemented.

Project Name: California Tower

  • Work Location: X and 45th Streets
  • Work Being Conducted: Gravel and slab on metal deck concrete pours
  • Work Date(s): 
    • March 9, 10, 12, 13, 17, 18, 20, 23, 24, 26, 27, 31
    • April 1, 6, 7, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 24, 27, 29, 30
    • May 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20 
    • June 2, 3, 5, 9, 15, 17, 18, 19, 24, 29, 30
    • July 1, 8, 9, 14, 20, 23, 24, 28, 30
    • August 6, 10, 11, 13, 14, 21
  • Time Frame: Gates open at 3 a.m. and concrete pours start at 4 a.m.
  • Important Project Notes: Potential dust and noise. Dust control plan, noise and lighting mitigations measures will be implemented.
    • All trucks will use white sound backup alarms.
    • Majority of pours will occur in the early morning during low traffic times.
    • Concrete pump will remain on ground level for all pours.
    • Flaggers in place to assist trucks.
  • This work will:
    • Prevent delays to ambulance traffic at the hospital. 
    • Avoid high traffic times and prevent traffic impacts from concrete and gravel trucks when many staff and patient vehicles are present. 

Project Name: California Tower

  • Work Location: X and 45th Streets
  • Work Being Conducted: Cranes and construction elevator (man-lift) will be used to conduct night stocking activities by placing materials on the Tower structure floors. 
  • Work Date(s): Weekdays, January through TBD
  • Time Frame: 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Important Project Notes: Second shift is being conducted in the evenings to free up cranes for day construction. Noise mitigation measures will be implemented.

Weekend Construction Activity

Project Name: California Tower

  • Work Location: X and 45th Streets
  • Work Being Conducted: Fireproofing installation upper floors of the Tower and level 1. Demobilizing equipment and removal of concrete standpipe. Rust removal on level 14. Fire sprinkler rough-in on level 10 and quality control work. Plumbing rough-in throughout the tower, in-wall, and overhead. Acoustical insulation installation in the Tower and shafts. General site maintenance. 
  • Work Date(s): Saturday, August 15, 2026
  • Time Frame: Saturday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.  
  • Important Project Notes: Noise mitigation measures will be implemented.
