After-Hour Construction Activity
Project Name: California Tower
- Work Location: X and 45th Streets
- Work Being Conducted: Gravel and slab on metal deck concrete pours
- Work Date(s):
- Mar. 9, 10, 12, 13, 17, 18, 20, 23, 24, 26, 27, and 31
- Apr. 1, 6, 7, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 24, 27, 29, and 30
- May 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, and 20
- Jun. 2, 3, 5, 9, 15, 17, 18, and 19
- Time Frame: Gates open at 3 a.m. and concrete pours start at 4 a.m.
- Important Project Notes: Potential dust and noise. Dust control plan, noise and lighting mitigations measures will be implemented.
- All trucks will use white sound backup alarms.
- Majority of pours will occur in the early morning during low traffic times.
- Concrete pump will remain on ground level for all pours.
- Flaggers in place to assist trucks.
- This work will:
- Prevent delays to ambulance traffic at the hospital.
- Avoid high traffic times and prevent traffic impacts from concrete and gravel trucks when many staff and patient vehicles are present.
Project Name: California Tower
- Work Location: X and 45th Streets
- Work Being Conducted: Cranes will be used to conduct night stocking activities by placing materials on the Tower structure floors.
- Work Date(s): Weekdays, January through May 2026
- Time Frame: 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Important Project Notes: Second shift is being conducted in the evenings to free up cranes for day construction. Noise mitigation measures will be implemented.
Project Name: Central Utility Plant Expansion (CUPx)
- Work Location: X Street and Entrance/Exit at Parking Structure 5
- Work Being Conducted: CUPx team will perform underground utility work on X Street at the Parking Structure 5 entrance and exit, resulting in closure and modified traffic flow at the Cancer Center valet.
- Work Date(s): Updated to Sunday, May 31 through Friday, June 5 (Week 1) and Sunday, June 7 through Friday, June 12 (Week 2)
- Time Frame: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Important Project Notes: Potential noise, most impactful work will be done at the start of shift.
- This work will:
- Prevent delays to ambulance traffic at the hospital
- Avoid high traffic times for the UC Davis Health campus when many EMS, staff, and patient vehicles are present.
Weekend Construction Activity
Project Name: California Tower
- Work Location: X and 45th Streets
- Work Being Conducted: Temporary steel beams installed for support must be removed. Due to the size and weight of the temporary steel members, the work must be carried out in a controlled and methodical manner to minimize safety risks and avoid conflicts with other site activities.
- Saturday: Set up mobile crane per approved crane plan. Lift up the south cantilever and release beams using hammers. Team will begin removing beams with mobile crane. Framing shafts in tower, fireproofing upper levels of tower, and general site maintenance.
- Sunday: Continue removing steel beams on south cantilever in the same area and temporary shoring.
- Work Date(s): Saturday, June 20, 2026 and Sunday, June 21, 2026
- Time Frame: Saturday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
- Important Project Notes: Extended work hours will help minimize safety risks and avoid high traffic times for the UC Davis Health campus when many EMS, staff, and patient vehicles are present. Removing steel will produce loud hammering noises. Noise mitigation measures will be implemented.
