Charis Ong, M.S., R.N., C.M.S.R.N.
Ong earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Sacramento, in 2012, and her Master of Science in Nursing Science and Healthcare Leadership from the University of California, Davis, in 2018. She is a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN) with extensive experience in clinical practice, nursing education, and academic leadership.
Charis began her nursing career at UC Davis Health in 2013 as a Clinical Nurse II on the Orthopedics and Trauma unit before transitioning to the Transplant and Metabolic Unit. Throughout her clinical practice, she served as a preceptor and mentor to new nurses, new graduate nurses, and prelicensure students while facilitating unit-based education and clinical training. In 2018, she transitioned into nursing education. She joined the UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, progressing from Clinical Instructor to Health Sciences Clinical Assistant Professor and, most recently, Assistant Program Director for the Master’s Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN). In her leadership role, she provided oversight of clinical education, supported faculty and clinical instructor development, and collaborated with academic and clinical partners to advance educational quality and program outcomes.
Charis is passionate about advancing innovative and meaningful approaches to professional education and development. Her work includes developing clinical instructor mentorship and onboarding programs, competency-based assessment tools, clinical preparation resources, and simulation-based learning experiences. She is committed to strengthening the development of nurses and educators through purposeful mentorship, evidence-informed education, and innovative instructional strategies, with a focus on fostering clinical excellence and high-quality patient care.
