This interactive workshop is designed to equip healthcare team members with essential skills to effectively discuss prognosis and goals of care with patients, families, and interprofessional colleagues. Through a combination of didactic content, facilitated group discussions, and experiential learning exercises, participants will gain practical tools for navigating critical conversations that arise in the context of serious illness.
Originally developed in response to requests from ICU staff and supported by a University of California grant, the workshop has expanded beyond its pilot phase and is now available to interdisciplinary team members across all care settings. The program emphasizes interprofessional collaboration and the integration of palliative care principles into everyday practice. Participants will explore the vital roles of various disciplines in palliative care, learn strategies for conducting effective goals-of-care discussions, and discover resources to support patients and families in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
