Course description

This is a course for nurses who care for adult patient with sepsis. The course will cover the pathophysiology of sepsis, severe sepsis, and septic shock, including patient assessment and management. This course has two parts. The first consists of an online module and post-test. It is recommended that the module is completed within 30 days of the course date, and the certificate of completion or training transcript must be shown at registration in order to attend. Part two consists of in-person utilization of case studies and role play. This course will mirror the nurses’ workflow, stressing the importance of early identification, responding to Epic-based alerts, timely interventions, and communication when caring for septic patients.

Prerequisites and preparation

  • This course is restricted to UC Davis Health CN IIs, CN IIIs, CN IVs and AN IIs. Exceptions must be approved by the CPPN course coordinators.
  • Completion of the Sepsis: Nurses Make the Difference Pre-Course Module. This module will take approximately 1 hour to complete.

It is recommended that the module is completed within 30 days of the course date. Participants must bring verification of completion to class. Participants may bring their UC Learning Center training transcript as proof or show their training transcript using the SumTotal Mobile app.

C.E. contact hours

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 4.0 contact hours.

The UC Davis Health Center for Professional Practice of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 5 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.

$25 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive deposit refund.

This class is only for UC Davis Health staff who deliver patient care.
