Thank you for your interest in the UC Davis Eye Center Residency Program! The Ophthalmology Residency Training Program at the UC Davis Eye Center is a fully accredited, four-year training program. Founded in 1970, the program has a long tradition of excellence in training outstanding physicians and surgeons. Our residency curriculum provides a rich grounding in clinical and surgical ophthalmology through formal didactics, clinical rotations, research and early surgical experience. Our graduates are extremely well prepared to begin independent practice or pursue subspecialty fellowship training, and our alumni have gone on to successful careers in private practice, industry and academic ophthalmology. We are incredibly proud of the ways in which our residents and alumni have contributed to their local and national communities through exemplary clinical work, research and leadership.

On Thanksgiving morning 2024, ophthalmology resident Dr. Neda Dastgheyb happened to be at the closed UC Davis Eye Institute when Maryam Paras arrived seeking emergency help for her father, Abdul Rauf. Rauf was rushed to the ER and treated for phacomorphic glaucoma—a severe condition caused by a swollen cataract. The sight-saving care completely restored Rauf's vision to 20/20, allowing him to return to driving for Uber.
