UC Davis Health IT receives Healthcare Compliance Analytics Advocacy Leader award

Two years ago, the UC Davis Health Compliance Office was looking to leverage best practices and the latest technology to manage the Privacy and Diversion programs, better protect patient information, and gain efficiencies through a centralized approach to proactive monitoring of our EMR.  Ultimately, the Compliance team partnered with Innovation Technology to replace the report-based surveillance EMR monitoring system with a web-based privacy, surveillance, and analytical software solution called Protenus.

Protenus uses artificial intelligence and automation to develop a deep clinical understanding of health system workflows. It also allows for the proactive detection and prevention of compliance violations such as breaches to patient privacy and incidents of clinical drug diversion.

During the 2021 PANDAS conference, Protenus’ event for healthcare compliance professionals to learn from peer organizations' experiences, exchange best practices, and use their collective expertise to advance standards for healthcare compliance, UC Davis Health was recognized as the Healthcare Compliance Analytics Advocacy Leader.

“IT has been an extremely important and valuable partner with the implementation and ongoing technical support for Protenus, from the initial roll-out of the Surveillance and Drug Diversion modules to additional system integrations, and with support for investigations related to cases generated by the system,” said Alessia Shahrokh, CHC, Compliance Investigations Manager, Compliance Department, UC Davis Health. “This award is testament to our teamwork and the value this solution brings to reducing risk across the health system.”
