Cassandra Lee, M.D., professor of orthopedic surgery and chief of the Division of Sports Medicine, recently performed a leading-edge outpatient procedure with a new implant called the MISHA Knee System that alleviated the chronic pain of a firefighter who underwent 11 previous surgeries. The MISHA Knee System cleared by the FDA in 2023, is an implantable tool that acts like a shock absorber for the knee. It alleviates pressure on the joint, easing pain and improving function for the patient.
UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital is Sacramento County’s first freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Developed in collaboration with Lifepoint Rehabilitation, the 58,000-square-foot facility is equipped with leading-edge amenities and 52-beds, including a 12-bed brain injury unit and 3,100-square-foot physical therapy gym.
A 5-year-old boy diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the first in California and fourth in the nation to receive groundbreaking gene therapy outside of clinical trials. The treatment, years in the making, brings hope to as many as 12,000 people in the U.S. who live with DMD.
