Carolynn Patten, Ph.D., PT, FAPTA, director of the UC Davis Biomechanics, Rehabilitation, and Integrative Neuroscience (BRaIN) Lab, is leading a study to understand the gait patterns of older adults in their natural environments. The study’s technology leverages computer vision and deep convolutional neural networks to perform 3D analysis.
A 5-year-old boy diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the first in California and fourth in the nation to receive groundbreaking gene therapy outside of clinical trials. The treatment, years in the making, brings hope to as many as 12,000 people in the U.S. who live with DMD.
