As GLP-1 agonists gain traction for diabetes and weight management, UC Davis Health convened leading scientists, industry innovators, and clinical experts to explore the systemic impact of GLP-1-based therapies and their potential to transform patient care. Researchers are studying GLP-1 drugs across multiple systems, from gastrointestinal and cardiovascular physiology to musculoskeletal and neurocognitive function.
To explore the role of thyroid hormones in cardiac contractility, endocrinology clinicians at UC Davis Health conducted a multicenter study examining function in hospitalized patients with severe hypothyroidism, including those with myxedema coma. The investigators explored whether untreated low thyroid hormone levels contribute to heart dysfunction, and published their findings in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
