POP Award for the most empathetic blood draw

(SACRAMENTO)

This month's Point of Pride (POP) Award was presented to Paris Jones, certified phlebotomy technician. The POP Award recognizes that every day, countless actions of empathy and kindness – large and small – take place across our health system.

Over the summer, Jones jumped to action when a patient felt faint and nauseous during a routine blood draw at the Midtown Clinic laboratory. The patient’s hearing became fuzzy and she had trouble communicating.

Jones recognized a vasovagal response and quickly provided the patient a cup of water and a bag of ice for her neck. She soothed the patient as she recovered, reassuring her that the response was common.

“Paris took incredible care of me in an unexpected and scary moment. She was empathetic, caring, kind, and helped alleviate my embarrassment over my response,” said the patient.

On Wednesday, Fabrizio Saraceni, Director of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Kimmie Bleichner-Jones, Associate Chief Operating Officer, presented the POP Award to Jones.

“Paris’s actions exemplify the compassion and professionalism we strive for every day,” said Bleichner-Jones.

Congratulations to Paris on her POP Award!
