Avian Influenza Update
Government resources, including testing and surveillance in the agriculture sector, will be distributed as part of the state of emergency Governor Gavin Newsom declared on Wednesday, Dec. 18, regarding the Avian Influenza.
This declaration is in response to a small increase in cases of Avian Influenza, or bird flu, within the agriculture industry. A relatively small number of human cases (34) have been reported in California, the majority of which involve agricultural workers exposed to infected livestock. UC Davis Health has not treated any of these cases.
Working with our partners at UC Health and the California Department of Public Health, we will continue to monitor the Avian Influenza situation and make any adjustments as needed. For our employees, no immediate changes are necessary at this time. We encourage you to continue the excellent care you are already delivering, including vigilance in identifying respiratory illnesses Your efforts ensure we are well-prepared to meet the health needs of our community, regardless of the respiratory illness—whether COVID, flu, RSV, or others.
Thank you for your continued dedication to our patients and your commitment to providing exceptional care.
