Bariatric Surgery Program earns ACS reaccreditation
The UC Davis Bariatric Surgery Program recently received a stellar review on re-accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The official review report found that “there is a clear, organization-wide commitment to excellence, with each team member demonstrating a dedicated approach to patient-centered care.”
Under the leadership of Mohamed Ali, medical director for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the program received high accolades from the MBSAQIP and achieved maximum re-accreditation as a comprehensive center.
“We feel like we have built something special,” Ali said, “We have a long history of being leaders in the weight loss space and have recently expanded to add non-surgical weight loss options to our established surgical program, a unique feature providing patients comprehensive obesity treatments.”
These expansions include the addition of board-certified medical obesity specialists to the team, as well as inclusion of programs in lifestyle modification, medically supervised meal replacement plans, and anti-obesity medication management (GLP-1 family of medications, etc.). In the wake of evolving obesity treatment standards, these features reinforce the innovative and forward-thinking nature of the program that maintains UC Davis Health Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery as one of the oldest continuously accredited programs in the country.
In addition to the multidisciplinary and ancillary clinical care, the establishment of and collaboration with the Center for Alimentary and Metabolic Science (CAMS) poises the institution as a leader in top-notch, novel clinical and basic science research in obesity and metabolic health. This research, in turn, further complements the robust clinical resources to provide patients with the most up to date and cutting-edge care.
Program highlights include:
- Robust multi-disciplinary team with vast subject matter expertise
- Expert bariatric surgical care for primary and revisional surgery, as well as complex postoperative care
- Comprehensive medical weight management, including obesity medication management
- NIH-funded clinical, basic (laboratory), and translational research in the Center for Alimentary and Metabolic Science (CAMS)
Congratulations to UC Davis Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program on its well-deserved re-accreditation.
