Beehive has staff buzzing with excitement, caution, questions
You might have to see it to bee-lieve it! There is a beehive described as “the size of a beach ball” located above the hospital’s outdoor common area. The hive is specifically located on the eighth floor of the University Tower.
The question many staff have asked: Is it safe for the hive to be there?
The Integrated Pest Management Committee—led by Environmental Health and Safety and Plant Operation and Maintenance departments—is aware of the hive and has already completed a full risk assessment.
“The hive is not harming anyone or anything in the building,” said Kristina Bair, sustainability director. “We are choosing to leave it be. It’s actually a great opportunity to highlight the importance of honeybees as pollinators for our food supply.”
Do feel free to check it out if you’re in the area, just “bee” sure to do it safely.
