Celebrating Women’s History Month: Who inspires you?

Extending nominations until March 10

(SACRAMENTO)

March is Women’s History Month.

Whether it be personal, professional or historical, women across the centuries have inspired us in many ways – to be brave, kind, strong, resilient, wise, rebellious, reflective, and so much more.

A few nominations have been received. Nominations will be extended until March 10.

See what some of our UC Davis Health community members have shared thus far about women that inspire them:

Nick Houser, internal and digital communications specialist, Public Affairs and Marketing:

“I admire my daughter for many traits – one of which is her bravery. She is so passionate about dance that she joined a performance dance team and has danced at Kings games, 49ers games and more (I could never!). She constantly tries new things, uses her perfect comedic timing to make me smile, and is quite possibly the sweetest, kindest, most caring person I know.”

Colleen Sweeney, professor and vice chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, UC Davis School of Medicine:

“Dr. Jann Murray-Garcia is a renowned scholar, educator, mentor and community and social activist. She has inspired countless students, colleagues and community members using her profoundly innovative methods of immersive teaching. Learning from her always provokes deep reflection and personal growth.”

Development and Alumni Relations:

“Carrie Fisher inspires me. When I was seven, ‘Leia’ was the first princess I ever saw who could and would save herself without a second thought. When I was in my twenties, she inspired me as a writer. Now, she reminds me to be unapologetically myself and that it's okay to be afraid.”

Sarah Dellett, dietetic intern, Food and Nutrition Services:

“My mother, Nora, inspires me every day with her free-thinking attitude and unmatched sense of humor. This past year, she helped me move to Sacramento all the way from New York to pursue the UC Davis Medical Center dietetic internship to become a Registered Dietitian. I would not be the same without her and the great joy she brings to the world! I love you!”
