New information: Parking for 48X Complex, Aggie Square

(SACRAMENTO)
PS4 garage located adjacent to the 48X Complex.

Update: July 1, 2025

With the opening of the 48X Complex and the recent adjustment to prioritize patient and visitor access on the first floor of Parking Structure 4 (PS4), we experienced increased demand during this morning’s peak period.

While traffic initially flowed smoothly and parking stalls remained available, the garage eventually reached capacity. At that point, Parking Services transitioned to valet and stacked parking operations. This shift led to brief traffic backups as our team worked efficiently to park and check in each vehicle.

To ensure safety and manage the flow, we temporarily closed the garage for approximately 15 minutes. Despite this short pause, all vehicles were successfully accommodated and parked.

To better support the anticipated ongoing demand, we are increasing valet staffing levels to help streamline operations and minimize delays.

We sincerely thank our Parking, Transportation, and Valet teams for their dedication, professionalism, and positive attitude. We also thank all employees using PS4 for your continued patience, understanding, and support as we adapt our operations to enhance the parking experience during this transition.

Thank you for your cooperation.

June 30, 2025:

With the opening of the 48X Complex, Parking and Transportation Services has developed a comprehensive plan to support patient and employee parking needs.

Parking Structure 4 (PS4) and 48X Complex Support

PS4 was developed to provide dedicated parking support for the new 48X Surgical Complex. Construction of the garage began in 2020 and was completed in January 2022, ahead of the 48X Complex ground-breaking. Its timely completion aligned with the start of the Aggie Square construction project and the resulting closure of Lots 14 and 16, which eliminated approximately 842 parking stalls previously supporting monthly “B” permits and daily parking.

To address the significant loss of “B” permit parking, Parking Services temporarily designated PS4 as an employee-only facility, reserved for “B” permit holders. This designation was intended to remain in effect until the 48X Complex was completed and the facility opened to patients.

Patient and Employee Parking for the 48X Complex

With the opening of the 48X Complex, PS4 has become the primary parking location for all patients visiting the medical facility. PS4 has been reclassified as a mixed-use facility, including patient and visitor parking to support this transition. The ground floor is reserved exclusively for patient and visitor use, ensuring convenient and accessible entry to the complex. This change removes approximately 124 standard employee stalls from PS4’s employee parking inventory. To partially offset this reduction, 14 additional employee stalls have been added to the rooftop level, resulting in a net decrease of 110 employee stalls in PS4.

Employee Parking:

  • “B” permit holders may continue to park on levels 2 and above in PS4.
  • Stacked parking services will remain available to employees on these upper levels.
  • An additional 14 standard employee stalls will be available on the upper floors for general employee use.

Mid-Shift Employee Parking:

  • Mid-shift employee parking will be discontinued in PS4 and relocated to Lot 12 (Y Street & 45th Street).
  • This adjustment will increase the number of mid-shift parking stalls and improve availability for employees arriving during late-morning shifts.

Future Parking Expansion

Looking ahead, Parking Structure 7 (PS7), currently under construction near the MIND Institute, is scheduled to open in September and add 1,259 new parking stalls.

Additionally, Parking Services recently added 118 new parking stalls to Lot 16, added 20 parking stalls to Lot 30A (aka: contractor lot), and expects to add 55 new parking stalls to Lot 30A in the coming months. More details will be shared later this summer.
