Certified Nurses Day: Spotlight #5

Thursday, March 19, was Certified Nurses Day, an annual celebration recognizing nurses who have earned and maintained the highest credentials in their specialty.

In honor of the occasion, we are highlighting several of our certified nurses and sharing why they chose to pursue certification and what it means to them.

UC Davis Health’s Certified Otorhinolaryngology Nurses (CORLN) issued by the Society of Head and Neck Nursing (SOHN)

There are just four nurses at UC Davis Health and in the Sacramento area who are CORLN certified. By obtaining this challenging certification, each demonstrated investment in the ENT patient population and commitment to best practices. The certification signifies a deeper understanding of anatomy, disease process, and care needs of the ENT patient. The initiative to obtain this certification demonstrates how these nurses have held themselves to a high standard and is exemplative of how certification elevates the nursing profession. While the patient may not be able to decipher the alphabet soup behind their names to understand its significance, this certification directly impacts the expert level of care they receive and the care they should expect.
