Construction activity: Upcoming CUPx traffic impacts along 45th, 48th and X Streets

(SACRAMENTO)

Starting Monday, Aug. 4, the CUPx team will be performing underground utility work along 48th Street and X Street, requiring lane closures impacting campus vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Large sections of 45th, 48th and X Street will be reduced to a few lanes and converted to one-way traffic. The first three phases of road closures are anticipated to be the most impactful and will be in place for 12 months.

August 2025 through March 2026, the Central Utility Plant expansion (CUPx) team will be performing Phase 1 of underground utility work along 48th Street and X Street, requiring the following lane closures:

  • X Street: Eastbound lanes will be closed between 45th and 48th, and traffic will be directed eastbound only via the westbound lanes. Pedestrian access will be limited to the sidewalk on the north side of X Street between 45th and 48th.

  • 48th Street: Southbound lanes will be closed between X Street and Y Street, and traffic will be directed southbound only via the northbound lanes. Pedestrian access will be partially restricted at the west sidewalk of 48th between X Street and Y Street.

  • 45th Street: Temporarily closed to the public between 2nd Avenue and Y Street to account for California Tower deliveries. Shuttles, buses, Cancer Center valet, UC Davis Health PO&M vehicles and deliveries will be permitted. Pedestrian access is not impacted.

Traffic delays are expected, and flaggers will be used to assist traffic flow.

Shuttle stops will be affected, and additional information will be distributed later notifying the campus of the modifications.

More detailed information about the road closures will be posted next week.
