A ribbon cutting on July 15 celebrated UC Davis Health’s state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) expansion.

The 22,000-square-foot space adds 24 beds, including ED observation beds, allowing the emergency department to expand and continue to provide the services and care our patients deserve.

This expansion is Phase 1 of adding observation beds to the ED. Once the California Tower opens in 2030, Phase 2 will add 10 more beds.

“The California Tower team is incredibly excited and proud to deliver this first phase of projects to our Emergency Department,” said Jana Aubert, program director of strategic programs with Cambridge CM, Inc. “Our success in delivering this space is driven by our amazing team of contractors, architects and trade partners. McCarthy Builders and SmithGroup Architects have designed and constructed a leading-edge observation unit that is bright and uplifting and ensures our commitment to the quality of care.”

A special thank you to UC Davis Health’s patients for their utmost understanding during construction, and deep gratitude as well to the fantastic ED staff – CEO and Vice Chancellor for Human Health Sciences David Lubarsky; System Chief Operating Officer and Chief Administrator Mike Condrin; Chief Medical Officer Joe Galante; Emergency Department Executive Director Rupy Sandhu; Associate Chief Operating Officer Kimberly Bleichner-Jones; Department of Emergency Medicine Chair Nathan Kuppermann; Department of Emergency Medicine Vice Chair James Holmes; Department of Emergency Medicine Co-Medical Director Daniel Colby; Associate Chief Operating Officer Jita Buño; Plant Operations & Maintenance; and, the Facilities Management staff.
