Employees share their intentions for 2025
A couple of weeks ago, UC Davis Health community members were invited to share a word that exemplifies their intention this year.
Some people prefer making New Year’s resolutions—declaring specific goals. In contrast, others focus on setting an intention or word to inspire new habits or enhance an existing practice.

Using a word cloud to illustrate people’s responses, below are some intentions shared by our community.
Michelle Bialek, Food and Nutrition Services administrative assistant, and April Baird, client engineering systems administrator with Information Technology, were asked about the meaning behind their intentions.
Bialek said, “Inspire means to excite, encourage, or breathe life into. Inspire comes from the Latin word that means to inflame. When you inspire something, it is as if you are blowing air over a low flame to make it grow.”
Baird shared enthusiasm about this engagement activity.
She said, “My family does this every year – we choose our focus and remind each other of it throughout the year. A phrase my grandparents used often was, ‘make do or do without.’ Since both have passed, we wanted to honor my grandparents this year by having their phrase be our 2025 intention. My grandparents' resourcefulness always encouraged a mindset to make the best of every situation by being creative and frugal with what we already have.”
More to come
Throughout the year, there will be more opportunities to engage via quotes, photos, and other media. Keep an eye out for more on The Insider.
