Facilities, Planning and Development taking inventory in hospital via LiDAR scanning

(SACRAMENTO)
Shown here, the LiDAR camera equipment.

Facilities, Planning and Development has begun taking inventory of nonstructural components within the main hospital. The inventory process includes teams walking around equipped with LiDAR (light detection and ranging) cameras to observe and scan existing equipment.

LiDAR uses eye-safe laser beams to "see" the world in 3D, providing machines and computers with an accurate representation of the surveyed environment.

The camera operators will walk the intended site before filming to work out logistics prior to filming. They will not film patients, patient boards or anything with patient information. Protective measures including blurring, covers and rescheduling will be utilized.

Scans will take place in the following locations in the East Wing Laundry and University Tower:

The scanning process may take several weeks to complete. Facilities will coordinate with staff prior to any scanning walks.
