Frequently Asked Question: 'Why can’t we park in Parking Structure 5?'
We understand that parking can be a daily challenge, and it’s especially frustrating to walk past PS5 and see what appear to be open spots. So, why can’t staff park there?
The short answer: PS5 is not yet available for UC Davis Health use.
Although the structure looks ready, it’s still under the control of the California Tower construction team and considered an active construction site. Because it’s not fully complete, and for safety and liability reasons, we cannot use the garage until construction wraps up—currently projected for 2030.
As construction activity increases, PS5 will also be used more heavily by construction crews, further limiting access.
We know this is inconvenient, and we’re actively working to make parking easier in the meantime. Here’s what Parking and Transportation has done recently to help:
- Added 14 spaces on the top floor of Parking Structure 4
- Relocated mid-shift parking to Lot 12 to free up space during peak morning hours
- Introduced stacked valet services during peak times to maximize PS4 capacity
- Expanded Lot 16 with 123 new spaces
- Added 20 new spaces to Lot 30A, with 35–40 more coming soon
And there’s more good news: Parking Structure 7 is opening this September, adding nearly 1,300 employee-only spaces.
We truly appreciate your patience and feedback. Your input helps us shape better parking solutions for everyone. Thank you for all you do to keep UC Davis Health running strong—we’re in this together, and we’re committed to making your commute as smooth as possible.
