Good News: Labor Action Update

(SACRAMENTO)

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to share the news that the California Nurses Association (CNA) has reached an agreement with UC and notified its members this morning there will be no strike by nurses on Monday (11/17) and Tuesday (11/18). This follows the good news from last weekend that UPTE also reached an agreement with UC, and also will not be striking. We want to express our appreciation to the CNA and UPTE leadership teams for their partnership and dedication in reaching these agreements.

However, it is important to note that there will still be a strike on Monday and Tuesday by members of AFSCME, who do not yet have a contract with UC.

As a result, many of the services which had been slowed or paused are now being resumed. This includes the transfer center, which is back to normal operations. Care team leaders are meeting today for each impacted service line to determine what can safely be re-opened and resumed, and where surgical cases can be rescheduled into now-available times.

We expect there will still be some minor impacts on these days, due to some AFSCME members being out on strike. The impact on patient care will be greatly lessened with both UPTE and CNA reaching contracts with UC and asking their members to report to work as regularly scheduled.

Thank you for your assistance in planning to ensure patient care continues, regardless of the disruptions, and we appreciate your help now in restoring services to normal where possible.

With thanks,
