Leadership Message: Celebrating National Nurses Week

(SACRAMENTO)

Dear Colleagues,

As we begin National Nurses Week – May 6 through May 12 – we embark on a journey to honor and celebrate the incredible dedication and compassion of nurses worldwide and here at UC Davis Health. This annual event is a time to recognize the profound impact nurses have on patient care. The celebration ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing.

In reflecting on Nightingale's legacy, we draw inspiration from her commitment to improving health care during the Crimean War. Through her compassion and unwavering efforts, she became known as the "Lady with the Lamp," as she often conducted patient rounds at night. Nightingale's lamp serves as a beacon guiding our own dedication to patient care.

At UC Davis Health, our nurses exemplify Nightingale's spirit every day. Their boundless love, compassion, courage, and integrity shine through in every interaction, leaving a lasting impression on our patients and their families.

Nurses Week is our opportunity to recognize, celebrate, and express our gratitude to the dedicated nurses of UC Davis Health. Our nurses play an integral role in making UC Davis Health a premier health care institution, earning respect from patients, the community, and fellow health care providers. In addition to their direct patient care responsibilities, our nurses embody kindness, empathy, and expertise in all of their multifaceted roles affecting patient care.

Please join me in honoring and celebrating the remarkable nurses of UC Davis Health. Let us take a moment during this week to express our gratitude for their science-based, technologically precise, and compassionately delivered care. The care they provide embodies the very essence of nursing excellence as they enrich lives and foster healing in our community. With much gratitude, I thank our nurses for their invaluable contributions to UC Davis Health and beyond.
