Leadership message: Ensuring continuity of care during planned labor activity
Dear Colleagues,
Tomorrow and Thursday, members of AFSCME, representing valued colleagues across many areas of the hospital and clinics, will conduct a planned strike. This decision undoubtedly presents a difficult choice for our AFSCME colleagues as they balance their commitment to our patients with their decision to strike. We respect each individual’s choice in this matter, recognizing that it is not one made lightly.
In preparation, our leadership team has worked thoughtfully and diligently over the past several weeks to ensure continuity of care and minimize any disruptions. We will make every effort to maintain normal operations, ensuring that procedures and appointments continue as scheduled wherever possible, though some may require rescheduling. Our commitment remains strong: patients are, and will always be, at the center of everything we do.
We understand that the absence of some colleagues may impact our daily routines, and we ask for everyone’s patience, flexibility, and cooperation. Now more than ever, let’s support one another with the respect, compassion, and understanding that define UC Davis Health. This is a time to remember our shared commitment to exceptional care and to live our values of kindness, trust, and inclusion.
We are doing everything we can to ensure uninterrupted care for our patients. While we know we cannot plan for everything, we are prepared to address any unexpected challenges as they arise. We are fortunate to have an exceptional team of people who have indicated they will come to work and ensure patients receive the care they need.
If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your manager or supervisor. Labor activity updates, information, and resources are also available on The Insider. (VPN is needed if off-campus.)
Thank you for your cooperation and for all that you do for our patients and each other.
With thanks,
Michael Condrin
