POC Spotlight: Kohaku Performance Collaborative
The Principles of Community Showcase is next week! This week, however, the event committee would like to showcase the Kohaku Performance Collaborative.
Kohaku is a unique performance collaborative based in Sacramento that specializes in traditional and contemporary Japanese performing arts, such as Kagura dance (the sacred dance of Shinto shrines), Taiko drum, and a variety of other celebrated cultural music and dance. The collective also performs Japanese folkloric and kids songs, music and dance of sacred rituals, and contemporary dance inspired by Japanese and world fusion.
Audiences will also enjoy the power and beauty of authentic Japanese instruments such as Taiko drums, Fue (flutes), Chappa (cymbals) and more.
Kohaku aims to share the rich Japanese cultural heritage through an artistic outreach that may bring the world a deeper appreciation for the beauty of Japan. Their creative offerings reveal the comical touching and sacred aspects of Japanese culture and Shinto traditions.
The Principles of Community Showcase is open to all UC Davis and UC Davis Health faculty, staff, learners, and health providers. Participation is voluntary and release time for employees can be coordinated with your supervisor.
Interested in volunteering?
The event committee is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make it a welcoming, inspiring space for everyone who attends. On March 1 and March 2, volunteers will help decorate and setup the event—the behind-the-scenes work that transforms a venue into a vibrant reflection of community, creativity, and shared values.
Volunteer roles include decorating, assisting with room and table setup, and helping ensure the venue is organized and ready for guests. Flexible shifts are available, and all volunteers will receive guidance and support on site. If you’re interested in volunteering, please sign up or reach out through this link.
