Topping off ceremony marks construction milestone of the 48X Complex

(SACRAMENTO)

On Tuesday, UC Davis Health celebrated the structural completion of the 48X Complex, the new ambulatory surgery center located at the corner of 48th and X streets on the Sacramento campus. Construction crew members lifted the final steel beam into place, completing the first phase of the build.

The topping off ceremony is a time-honored tradition celebrating a significant milestone in a construction project. At the ceremony, UC Davis Health leadership gathered to sign the beam before it was installed.

“We are one big step closer to a major expansion of human-centered care for UC Davis Health patients. The flexible design of 48X will adapt as patient needs change over time, allowing our clinical teams to treat a more diverse patient population,” said Interim Associate Chief Operating Officer, Ambulatory Services, David Del Pizzo.

The 48X Complex is expected to open in July 2025. The complex will span 267,000 square feet and include 14 operating rooms, 59 pre-and post-operative recovery bays, and 14 single-occupant overnight recovery rooms. The center will also include clinical support, pharmacy, imaging and physical therapy services, and administrative support space.
