Mark Rosenblatt, vice chancellor of human health sciences, visited the UC Davis School of Medicine this week to engage with residents, fellows and students on key health care issues.

In an early morning breakfast session with residents and fellows, the vice chancellor discussed topics with the group ranging from collaborative research and Aggie Square to emergency department capacity and how the school and UC Davis Health can better serve its patients and communities. Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education Susan Guralnick participated in the discussions.

Later, over lunch, he met with medical students from all four class years andAssistant Dean for Medical EducationGurmeet “Roy” Rai. The students’ questions, described as thoughtful and forward-looking, covered Match Day, strategic priorities, community engagement, and the integration of AI into medical education.

Vice Chancellor Rosenblatt offered his initial observations of the health system, the opportunities and challenges facing academic medical centers overall, and the importance of supporting physician-scientist programs.

Altogether, the conversations reinforced the importance of investing in the next generation – and ensuring that fellows, residents and students have a voice in shaping the future of academic medicine and clinical care at UC Davis Health and beyond.
