Ryan Davis
Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer
Ryan Davis, J.D., LL.M., is the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer at UC Davis Health.
Davis has worked in the UC Davis Health Compliance Department since arriving in 2021 as the Privacy Program Manager. He later served as the Interim Chief Privacy Officer and Executive Director before beginning his current role. Davis has an extensive background in compliance and privacy matters. Before UC Davis Health, he worked as an Attorney and Privacy Officer at the California Department of Public Health.
In his UC Davis Health role, Davis oversees the direction and leadership of the Compliance and Privacy Program, ensuring adherence to regulatory, billing, coding, and research compliance and federal (HIPAA) and state (CMIA and IPA) privacy compliance. His responsibilities include regularly reporting to the UC Davis Health compliance governing board on the status of compliance programs; serving as the executive liaison to the campus on all matters relating to compliance and privacy; overseeing the health system’s state-of-the-art AI-based patient privacy monitoring system and required federal and state reporting; and developing and participating in educational and training programs to ensure compliance with federal and state standards.
His additional duties include collaborating with various departments to coordinate internal compliance reviews and monitoring activities; investigating and acting on matters related to compliance and privacy, including designing and coordinating internal investigations; and supervising professional and support staff in administrating the Compliance and Privacy Program.
Ryan earned an undergraduate degree from California State University, Sacramento, a law degree from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento, and an LL.M. in health law from Loyola University Chicago.
