Jennifer L. Rosenthal, M.D., M.A.S.
Associate Dean for Research Education and Training
Jennifer L. Rosenthal, M.D., M.A.S., is the Associate Dean for Research Education and Training at the UC Davis School of Medicine. In this role, she provides leadership and oversight for medical trainee research education across the undergraduate-to-graduate medical education continuum. She leads the design, implementation and continuous improvement of a comprehensive, longitudinal research training ecosystem that expands equitable access to high-quality research opportunities; strengthens mentorship and skill development; fosters professional identity formation; and prepares medical students, residents and fellows to conduct rigorous, impactful research that improves health outcomes.
Rosenthal previously served as a director of Academic Research Careers for Medical Doctors (ARC-MD), the School of Medicine’s five-year physician-scientist pathway program. She also established the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Student Physician-Scientist Early Research Experiences (SPHERE) Academy. She currently serves on the leadership cabinet of the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center, where she co-leads the Continuous Quality Improvement Program and the Dissemination and Implementation Science Program. Nationally, she served on the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Awards Workforce Development Executive Committee.
Rosenthal is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics and a board-certified pediatric hospitalist. She is an NIH-funded pediatric health services researcher whose work focuses on redesigning health care delivery systems to improve family engagement, clinical outcomes and health equity for children and families.
Her research has helped establish UC Davis as a national leader in telehealth innovation, digital health equity, and family-centered care and has been supported by multiple NIH awards from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Institute of Nursing Research and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. She has received multiple national awards recognizing excellence and innovation in digital health equity.
Her commitment to developing the future physician workforce is further reflected in her service on the School’s Admissions Committee, including five years as Vice Chair. Rosenthal is a recipient of the UC Davis School of Medicine Emerging Leader Award.
