Shuchi Anand, Associate Dean for Global Health

Shuchi Anand, M.D., M.S., is the Associate Dean for Global Health and a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.

Anand is an adult kidney specialist who focuses on caring for patients with kidney concerns during cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. She is the first onco-nephrologist at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and will conduct collaborative research with the Department of Surgery. Nationally, she is a founding board member of the American Society of Onco-Nephrology and serves on the organization’s Position Statement Committee.  She also specializes in genetic and tubulointerstitial kidney diseases.  

Anand’s clinical research aims to advance the care of patients with kidney disease living in low-resource settings through practical tools. She has active projects in collaboration with the University of Utah to promote exercise programming, with the Center for Chronic Disease Control in India to study risk factors for kidney disease in South Asians, and with Kandy Hospital in Sri Lanka to investigate chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology affecting agricultural communities.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anand also participated in a partnership to elucidate seroepidemiology, vaccine acceptance and vaccination response among patients on dialysis. She has served on National Institutes of Health consortia focused on improving the health of underserved populations and has served on the program leadership council for the Center for Innovation in Global Health at Stanford University since 2015.

Anand received her bachelor’s degree in economics from Carleton College, her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and later completed a master’s degree in epidemiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by a nephrology fellowship and Masters in Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Stanford University.
