National Radiologic Technology Week runs Nov. 6 – 12

The UC Davis Department of Radiology will celebrate National Radiologic Technology Week, Nov. 6-12, 2022, recognizing the radiology and imaging services provided across UC Davis Health.

The theme for this year’s National Radiologic Technology Week is “Aim to Heal” as the industry recognizes the vital work of medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals in patient care and health care safety. The annual event commemorates the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895.

“Every year, brings changes to the Department of Radiology and this year is no exception as we continue to grow our team and expand our services to the community,” said Department of Radiology Chair Elizabeth Morris.

This year’s celebration is in honor of the 500 UC Davis radiology professionals who have helped perform more than 440,000 radiology exams in 2022, which is 35,000 more exams than in 2021 and 70,000 more exams than in 2020. They include technologists, students, residents, fellows, faculty, nurses, administrative staff, schedulers, receptionists as well as team members in IT and clinical engineering.

“These dedicated individuals not only make our radiology services exceptional, but also play a pivotal role in UC Davis Health and are consistently being recognized both locally and nationally for excellence,” said Director of Imaging Services Delane Mason. “We are grateful every day for the contributions our people are making to the department and the community we serve.”

Events are planned for radiology team members at the hospital, ACC, and all off-campus locations during Radiologic Technology Week. On top of the support directly from the health system and radiology for this celebration, department leadership and faculty have donated nearly $1500 to go toward games and prizes that all team members are encouraged to participate in.

“Radiology takes tremendous pride in what we bring to the UC Davis Health System and the communities we serve, and this week, annually, is just one small opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to all the individuals that make what we do possible,” added Morris.
