Genetic Counseling
The "diagnostic odyssey" can be frustrating and overwhelming, for adults, children, and families alike. My first priority is centering the needs and goals of my patients, and providing informative, compassionate, and culturally considerate genetic counseling. I also recognize that medical conditions can impact a patient, their caregivers, partners, and other family members in different ways, and I strive to address every person's experience during my counseling process.
Annika Gillam is a licensed and board certified pediatric and adult genetic counselor. She works with individuals who have a personal or family history of a genetic condition, or are at risk of a genetic condition. She has interests in vascular, cardiovascular, and ocular genetics. Her other professional interests include experiences of LGBTQ+ genetics patients, pediatric patient and caregiver experiences, and digital accessibility of genetics services for patients with disabilities.
Annika works in the lab of Dr. Daniah Beleford to aid clinical research for hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) and other genetic conditions. Her role in the lab includes tracking and contacting patients who express interest in research to help enroll them in collecting family histories and counseling on the risks, benefits, and limitations of genetic testing in a research-based setting, and conducting analysis on genetic and genomic datasets.
