Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Chang’s has had a long standing interest in neurogenetics. She authored the Medscape articles for Menkes disease, Incontinentia Pigmenti and Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis in 2002 and continues to update those articles. She has also coauthored an abstract on a hypotonic infant with an EARS2 Mutations and an article on patients with congenital myasthenia. She taught at a neurology board review course, giving lectures on:

  1. genetic disorders including chromosomopathies, mitochondrial disorders and lysosomal disorders.
  2. congenital disorders including CNS malformations and neurocutaneous syndromes.
  3. child neurology including childhood epilepsies which are largely genetic.

She also works with the Genomic Medicine group closely, participates in the Genomic Medicine clinical rounds regularly and has given joint neurology grand rounds with various members of the Genomic Medicine group.

Dr. Chang’s other interests also include:

  1. medical education. I did an ANA teaching fellowship in 2001 at the University of Rochester. I have developed curriculum for medical students and residents. I was also chair of the planning committee for the 2019 North Pacific Child Neurology Colloquium and have taught in review courses.
  2. wellness for physicians and medical students. I have served on the UCD Medical Staff Well- Being Committee since July and the UCD Dept of Pediatrics Pediatric Residency Wellness Committee since July 2012.
  3. telemedicine and use of the electronic medical record. I have been providing outpatient telemedicine care since 2001. I am also an Epic poweruser.
  4. leadership. I took a mid career leadership course 2009 to 2010 and have been involved with the advanced leadership development program since 2017 as part of the focus group to develop the course, as a participant in the course in 2018 and now as a program fellow helping to facilitate sessions.
