The UC Davis Division of Pain Medicine has gained national prominence through participation and leadership in esteemed professional health care organizations.
The American Pain Society (APS) recognized UC Davis Health as a National Center of Excellence in Pain Medicine in 2010. Five years later, APS designated the UC Davis Pain Management Clinic as a Clinical Center of Excellence. This acknowledgment recognizes the exemplary care that UC Davis routinely performs for patients with chronic pain disorders, acute pain after surgery or trauma, and patients receiving palliative care for pain from cancer and other terminal conditions.
Designation as a clinical center of excellence is the highest form of national recognition that a pain center can receive. Known for taking on the most difficult cases of acute, cancer-related and chronic pain, UC Davis pain-treatment specialists work with patients and their primary-care clinicians and referring physicians to perform sensitive, effective care for people experiencing pain for a wide variety of reasons. The Pain Management Clinic emphasizes a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to care along with innovative research, clinical education and training, and patient advocacy to improve public policy.
We have gained national recognition not only for patient care but also for our Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) sanctioned program that trains physicians as pain medicine specialists. The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) twice presented the Fellowship Excellence Award to our Pain Medicine Fellowship Program. Fellows enrolled in the program gain the broadest experience in pain medicine, including use of pharmacologic agents, interventional treatments, and neuromodulation therapies within the context of a multidisciplinary treatment framework. The prestigious honor twice bestowed by AAPM recognizes our relentless dedication and commitment to training future leaders in the field of pain medicine.
