The Division of Pain Medicine conducts two highly regarded fellowship programs and host rotations of UC Davis School of Medicine students.

Education Building

The Division of Pain Medicine helps advance medical education by training physicians to be specialists in the field. We host rotations of UC Davis School of Medicine students who are pursuing their M.D. degrees, and the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine conducts a residency program that prepares physicians to diagnose and treat chronic pain.

Our division also conducts two highly regarded fellowship programs for credentialed physicians who want to practice pain medicine, and we present monthly lectures open to all medical professionals who seek to expand their knowledge about care for chronic pain.

Many patients first seek treatment for pain from their primary care physicians, and in rural areas, these doctors take on a major role in delivering pain treatment. Recognizing that many of these clinicians have had limited formal exposure to pain care, we created an innovative program to address this need. Our innovative 10-month Train-the-Trainer (T3) Primary Care Pain Management Fellowship provides primary care leaders with the detailed education they need to provide similar education to others in their community. The creation of this program has helped improve access to pain care for many individuals living in rural areas.
