Research Interests

  • One-carbon metabolism, B vitamins (folate, B12, B6), and homocysteine
  • Assessment of vitamin B12 absorption and bioavailability using carbon-14 labeled B12 and accelerator mass spectrometry
  • B vitamins, homocysteine, and cognitive function in the elderly
  • Effect of single nucleotide polymorphisms on one-carbon metabolism
  • DNA methylation and cancer epigenetics
  • Vascular adhesion and inflammation in sickle cell disease and renal transplant patients

Brief Biography

Joshua Miller received his doctorate in Nutrition from Tufts University in 1993. After consecutive post-doctoral experiences at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging in Boston, MA, and in the Department of Pharmacology at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC, he joined the faculty of the UC Davis School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in 1997. He is a member of the UC Davis Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology and the UC Davis Program in International and Community Nutrition. He is also director of the UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Center serum, plasma, and DNA bank.
