Research Interests:
Optimizing Glycemic control for patients, patient safety when using glycemic agents, using technology (Insulin pumps and CGM) for glycemic management, quality improvement when choosing glycemic agents, transitioning between different stages of care.

Practice Philosophy:
I am a Diabetes Passionata, the landscape of glycemic agents has changed dramatically in the last 20 years and glycemic control can be individualized based on cardiovascular risk, renal function and comorbidities. Technology (Insulin Pumps and CGM) can aid patients and practitioners in decision making and titrate to goals faster and more effective.

Bio:
Dahlia Zuidema is originally from the Netherlands. She completed her PharmD and a 4 year clinical residency in the Netherlands and did a research externship at an Australian Hospital. Before coming to UCDavis Medical Center in 2012, she worked as a clinical specialist in the Netherlands before moving to the USA in 2007. She worked in St Louis for SSM Healthcare, engaging in different hospitals and rotating through various clinical areas (ICU, ED, floor, Antimicrobial Stewardship). Dahlia Zuidema has type 1 Diabetes and is very passionate about improving glycemic control. She got her CDCES license in 2017 and BC-ADM in 2019. She is passionate about precepting students and residents with research projects and Grand Rounds. She has published in peer reviewed articles and presented locally and at conferences.

Dahlia Zuidema engages in the Multi-Disciplinary Diabetes Committee and employs leadership in teaching other colleagues, students, residents and other professionals about glycemic control, insulins, new agents like GLP1 and SGLT2i and Technology. She has given lectures for Prof Mark Huising, UCDavis, with Endocrinology for MS1 and Nursing and Board of School Nurses. She is a proud member of ADA and ADCES and advocates for continued education and exploring beyond the clinical walls of the institution.
