My goal in life is to inspire others to their greatest potential, whether that is patients or colleagues, or learners.  With all of the changes in health care, resources are scarce, but I enjoy finding creative solutions to lead my area, while also improving efficiency and outcomes.

Bio:
Dr. Burton earned a Doctorate of Pharmacy from University of the Pacific in 1999 and completed a residency in pharmacy practice at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton in 2000.

Dr. Burton has 22 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist including 16 years in a supervisory or management role.  Prior to transitioning into management, Dr. Burton practiced as a clinical pharmacist in anticoagulation and cardiology ambulatory care.  During the last 16 years as a manager, Dr. Burton has initiated pharmacist run clinical programs in hypertension, hyperlipidemia, congestive heart failure, and diabetes. One of her highlighted accomplishments is establishing a Renewal Clinic covering over 200 physicians.  Dr. Burton has helped develop the UC Davis Anticoagulation Clinic, and she played an active role in the hospital’s initial expansion of Specialty Services in Hepatitis C, Rheumatology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, and Dermatology. In addition, Dr. Burton oversaw and managed the UC Davis Transitions of Care program, a service that encompasses Med Rec on admission, discharge, and discharge education for 6 hospital units, and include high risk patients across the hospital for 7 years.  Dr. Burton has remained active in research. She has previously served as the PI for an external research trial, championed several grants including Pay for Performance Grants and a Risk Reduction Grant to improve clinical pharmacy services.  From 2018 to 2020, Dr. Burton served as Interim Assistant Chief of Pharmacy over Central Inpatient Operations, prior to starting a new role as the Assistant Chief of Population Health and serving as UC Davis’s Population Health Lead for Pharmacy. Dr. Burton believes that collaboration amongst health-care professionals and especially amongst pharmacists will be key in making significant improvements in healthcare. She views her participation on collaborative projects as a step towards tighter collaboration between medical centers, pharmacists, and the improvement in patient care.
