The 4th annual Nursing Science and Professional Governance Conference was held on May 11, 2022 during Nurses Week. The event showcased the evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and research accomplished by nurses and interdisciplinary teams at UC Davis Health.
This year’s program featured a Keynote Address by Christine Pabico, PhD, RN, NE-BC, FAAN, who is the Director of ANCC’s Pathway to Excellence Program and the Incoming President of the Philippine Nurses Association, Metro DC. Dr. Pabico’s presentation focused on her research and evidence-based practices around wellbeing and positive practice environments in healthcare. In addition, our schedule featured over 50 presentations and activities, including, Podium Presentations, Ignite! Symposiums, Poster Presentations and Workshops. Presentation Guidelines:
- Project Types:
- UC Davis Health clinicians and nurses from other health systems may submit an abstract using this online system in one or more of the following categories: Research, Evidence-based Practice, Research or Innovation.
- Multidisciplinary work is welcome, but a nurse must be part of the project team, if not the team leader/principal investigator.
- Project work must be current and ideally, completed prior to the 2022 conference.
- Project Topics:
- We seek topics related to all nursing roles and patient populations, clinical systems and professional practice.
- UC Davis Health EBP Fellows and Unit-based Practice Councils (UBPC) are each required to submit a conference abstract.
- Individual projects, graduate school projects, and projects presented at external conferences during the year are encouraged to submit an abstract. Please note if you are submitting a project for which you have already created a poster presentation.
- Podium presentations must consist of original work and cannot be duplicate of work presented at a prior UC Davis Health conference.
- Authors may submit more than 1 abstract.
Submission Instructions:
Abstract Submission:
- Abstract sections should include details related to the following (details provided below):
- Background (Why): This section should be no more than five sentences, explaining the importance of the study or project and how it will add to the state of the science and/or clinical practice.
- Purpose (What): This section provides a brief description of the study or project.
- Methods (How): This section should succinctly describe the methods used to complete the project or study. For a research study, include the design, setting, population/sample, measurement tools, and analysis approach. For projects, include the setting, the composition of your team, the participants with whom you worked, your project intervention, and evaluation strategy.
- Results (So what): This section describes the results of your study or project. Limit information provided to the facts. This should flow directly from the methods and be consistent with the purpose/aims/questions. If you conducted a research study, include final sample size and composition, basic demographics, and primary results. If you conducted a project, describe the result of the intervention and what the evaluation showed.
- Conclusion (What next): This final section of the abstract should summarize the result of your project and describe implications for further study or next steps.
- Abstracts should not exceed 500 words.
- Do NOT include references in your abstract.
- For projects in process, report in the results section the status of the project to date, any preliminary results available, and outcomes you will be evaluating. No scores will be allotted for blank sections.
- Abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the UC Davis Health Evidence-Based Practice and Research Council.
- Authors of selected presentations will be notified in the first week of March 2022.

Honors and Awards:
- Abstract submissions with the best score in each of the following categories will be selected to give a podium presentation in the following 'Best' categories:
- Best People & Practice Environment
- Best Patient Experience
- Best Quality
- Best Financial Stewardship
- A 'People's Choice' Poster Award will be presented on the day of the conference based on attendee voting.
Biographical Information & Conflict of Interest Statement:
Presenters will be required to provide this information during their submission.

Accreditation: Nursing contact hours will be awarded to UC Davis Health nurses by completing conference and presentation evaluations on the day of the event.
Costs and Attendance:

- Unless pre-arranged with your Manager, costs associated with conference attendance and presentation will be the responsibility of the presenter.
- UBPC Presenters
- Conference attendance and final presentation must be approved by your Manager.
- Attendees may request professional leave (PL) time to attend the conference.

- Externally-affiliated individuals

Encourage your colleagues to check out the conference poster website and VOTE for their favorite poster! Voting begins on May 1, 2022 and closes on May 11, 2022 at 2:00pm. The “People’s Choice” for Best Poster will be announced at the end of the day and everyone who votes (UCDH staff only) will be entered into a raffle to win one of 10+ gift cards generously donated by various professional governance committees.
Nursing contact hours will be awarded to UC Davis Health nurses and previously approved external participants attending the conference in person. Please complete conference and presentation evaluations on the day of the event for those presentations attended.
