Leadership in an Evidence-Based Organization
Exceptional leaders are essential for cultivating a culture of evidence-based decision making and fostering a spirit of inquiry across the organization. While a strong EBP infrastructure has been instrumental in shaping our organization, our long-term success relies on equipping leaders at all levels with the skills and resources to lead effectively. By integrating the best available evidence and clinical expertise, while considering patient preferences, values and circumstances, leaders can drive meaningful change and ensure continuous improvements in care.
The following EBP programming for leaders is offered to UC Davis Health executives, managers, supervisors and aspiring leaders. Our goal is to provide foundational training that empowers leaders to drive change through evidence-based practices. Participants will learn how to integrate EBP into system-level thinking and support their teams in improving outcomes while delivering high-quality care.
- One-day Leadership Workshop
Tailored for new executives, managers and supervisors, this workshop empowers leaders with the knowledge and skills to drive evidence-based change. It provides a comprehensive overview of the organization’s EBP model, implementation frameworks, and key strategies for integrating evidence into practice. Participants will also explore distinctions between quality improvement work and EBP initiatives, as well as effective approaches for advancing initiatives in collaboration with clinical staff and practice councils.
- Leading with Evidence in the Rising Nurse Leader Program
This EBP component, part of a larger leadership development program, introduces emerging leaders to the foundational concepts of leading in an evidence-based organization and fostering a culture of inquiry. This training provides an overview of EBP principles and their role in leadership, equipping new leaders with a solid understanding of evidence-based decision-making.

EBP Trained Leaders
Our commitment to EBP, improving patient outcomes, and enhancing clinician well-being is evident in the substantial number of leaders who have dedicated time to learning about EBP methodology and the Advancing Research and Clinical Practice Through Close Collaboration (ARCC) model. These leaders are not only instrumental in driving improvements within the organization but also play an important role in fostering a culture of inquiry and advancing our vision of becoming a fully integrated evidence-based organization.
