Course description
This course provides a foundation for the assessment of neuroscience patients with a focus on utilizing serial bedside neurological assessments for surveillance of patient status. The learner will enhance their knowledge of the NIHSS, including the rationale for each sub-component and appropriate individualizations for common neurological deficits. Particular focus will be placed on tools and techniques to improve recognition of and expedite response to acute neurological change.
Attire
This course will start in a classroom, then transition to a workshop format. Wear scrubs and be prepared to perform patient assessments in a safe and collaborative environment.
Prerequisites
Participants must have a current NIHSS certification.
C.E. contact hours
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 4.0 contact hours.
The UC Davis Health Center for Professional Practice of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 5 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.

$25 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive deposit refund. Please register through UC Learning Center and call our office at 916-734-9790 with your deposit by credit card.
Registrations are approved only after your deposit is provided.
Community registrants
This class is only open to UC Davis Health employees.

Parking is available in parking structure 4, lots 12, 17, 22, 22 Auxiliary, 30, 30 Auxiliary, Broadway, EDD, and DOJ with either a B permit or daily permit.
