This course provides a foundation for oxygenation and ventilation in the neonatal population. Noninvasive modalities will be reviewed in addition to mechanical ventilation, including conventional and high frequency ventilation. The learner will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge pertaining to x-ray and blood gas interpretation. Specific neonatal respiratory conditions will be reviewed: diaphragmatic hernia, meconium aspiration, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, pulmonary hemorrhage, air leaks and apnea of prematurity. Surfactant administration, endotracheal intubation and chest tube management will be reviewed.
