Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
This course is for health-care providers who either direct or participate in any aspect of patient care during neonatal resuscitations. Participants must be currently working in the field of neonatal care to attend. The Neonatal Resuscitation Program is based on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovasculer Care of the Neonate. The NRP course format requires learners to study the material from the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 7th Edition, and take an online examination before attending the NRP course. Learners attend an interactive course that includes little or no lecture about textbook contents, uses course time for skills stations and supervised practice, and uses simulation and debriefing as an important part of the learning experience. Candidates must be health-care providers (medical, nursing, paramedical allied health professionals) whose daily occupations demand proficiency in neonatal delivery room resuscitation.
Prior to the course, participants must read the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 7th Edition and pass the NRP online examination. A loaner manual, The AAP/AHA 2016 7th Edition Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Manual for UC Davis Health staff may be picked up at our office, approximately one month prior to the class with a $70 deposit. Loaner manuals must be returned in good condition the day of the course. Participants are responsible for the $70 cost of the manual if it is not returned or is damaged. Manuals are also available for purchase through Amazon and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Cascade Training Center will assign the online examination upon registration. Bring your online examination verification to the NRP course.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing or scrubs. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands, bending, standing, and lifting. If you have physical conditions that might prevent you from participating in the course, please notify us prior to the course. The instructor will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements.
Class dates and registration is available through Cascade Training Center. UC Davis employees must obtain a unit-specific coupon code from their manager for registration. Any staff member who registers for NRP and does not cancel and is a no-show, will be responsible for paying for their next class.
UC Davis employees are required to wear their employee badge in order to attend the course.
