Peritoneal dialysis is a renal replacement therapy that uses the peritoneal membrane to remove fluid and waste from the body. Sterile dialysis solution is placed in the abdomen and left there for a period to allow diffusion of solutes and movement of fluid. Then the used dialysate is drained from the body. We will cover how this can be done with gravity or using a cycling machine for this treatment. In this course we will cover the concepts of diffusion and how peritoneal dialysis replaces kidney function for those patients with loss of kidney function. Please dress in comfortable work attire, and plan to attend full day of education and hands on training.
