Course description
The PICU Training Program is for nurses newer to the PICU environment. This including new graduate nurses to nurses with <5 years of experience or adult nurses who care for critically ill children in adult ICUs at UC Davis Medical Center. This class is part one of a five day series. You must register for each session individually if you want to attend subsequent sessions. This course provides participants with a review of in-depth pathophysiology, evidence-based care, and skills through simulation-based scenarios relating to caring for critically ill children. The content for day one includes: vasoactive medications in pediatric critical care, pediatric sepsis/septic shock, chest x-ray interpretation, mechanical ventilation in pediatrics, duchenne’s muscular dystrophy.
Target audience
This class is restricted to UC Davis Health PICU, Children's Hospital Critical Care Transport Team, and PCR Pediatric Critical Care RNs.
Prerequisites and preparation
Participants are required to complete the following Pediatric Learning Solutions modules which are available through UC Learning Center prior to attending class. Additionally, there are three recommended but not required modules listed. For planning purposes, please note the required modules will take approximately 4 hours to complete. CEUs will be awarded for these modules, separate from the class.

Participants must bring proof of completion of all 4 required eLearning modules to class. Participants may bring their CEU certificate, certificate of completion or their UC Learning Center training transcript as proof.
C.E. contact hours
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 6.5 contact hours.
Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 20 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.
Registration
UC Davis Health employees
$25 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive deposit refund. Please register through UC Learning Center and call our office at 916-734-9790 with your deposit by credit card.
Registrations are approved only after your deposit is provided.

This class is only open to UC Davis Health employees.
