Education Development Series: Part 1 - Planning an Effective Course | Center for Professional Practice of Nursing

Thoughtful planning is the foundation of effective education. Whether you are developing a new class, updating existing education, or stepping into an educator role, this course will help you build a strong foundation for creating meaningful learning experiences. Education Development Series: Part 1 – Planning an Effective Course is the first course in a three-part series that guides participants through the educational development process from planning and course design to implementation and evaluation.

In Part 1, participants will learn how to identify and analyze practice gaps, determine educational needs, develop measurable learning outcomes, select appropriate assessment methods, and choose active learning strategies that support learner success. Through interactive activities and a healthcare-based case study, participants will apply each step of the planning process and see how the pieces come together to create purposeful, learner-centered education.

This course is designed for anyone involved in planning, developing, or providing education and provides the foundation for Part 2: Developing an Engaging Course and Part 3: Implementing and Evaluating Courses for Impact.

This course is only open to UC Davis Health employees.
