Together with our partners, we have organized and participated in over 50 outreach events, reaching more than 6,300 community members in the last fiscal year, and we’re on track to exceed that number this year. Our aim? To demystify the hiring process and show that #youbelonghere at UC Davis Health.

  • UC Davis Health shows up in a big way at Celebrate Oak Park

    SEPTEMBER 04, 2024
    Volunteers from numerous departments participated, including the Office for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Food and Nutrition Services, the Office for Wellness Education, Volunteer Services, plus Talent Acquisition and Compensation Service's Diversity Services. Community members enjoyed refreshing watermelon smoothies and fresh fruit, received resources about applying for or volunteering at the health system, and were provided information about free classes through UC Davis Health.

    UC Davis plans to further its role as an Anchor Institution to help fuel the economic health and overall well-being of the neighborhoods surrounding its Sacramento campus. Anchor institutions shape their practices around employment opportunities, small business contracting, volunteer ‘people-power’ and local investments to help create stronger local neighborhoods. This commitment includes providing job opportunities for local builders and tradespeople as well as setting prevailing wage requirements for all laborers who work on site.

This represents significant progress toward the health system’s commitment to support local business growth, especially in underserved areas.

  • UC Davis Health creates road map to diversify healthcare workforce

    UC Davis Health, recognized by Forbes as a "Best Employer in California", has developed a road map for increasing workforce diversity across the industry. While California banned the consideration of race or ethnicity in hiring at public institutions in 1996, UC Davis Health has since come up with a holistic outreach and local recruitment plan that has proven effective. And that approach is now receiving global attention through a new case study published in New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst’s January 2024 issue.

  • UC Davis Health’s Anchor Institution Mission advances health equity

    JANUARY 05, 2024
    Recognizing the need to address poverty, unemployment, and other social factors that have been shown to worsen health, UC Davis Health launched the Anchor Institution Mission for Community Health – AIM for short – in January 2020.  “Anchor Institutions” are large, place-based organizations such as universities and hospitals that make a long-term commitment to invest in their local communities. As a leading health institution in higher education and health care, UC Davis Health is committed to supporting the economic vitality of the Sacramento region through local hiring, investing, purchasing, and volunteering strategies.
