Chief Resident Training in Hospital Medicine

A unique opportunity for family physicians who plan to dedicate a significant portion of their career to caring for hospitalized adults.

On September 1, 2026, we will begin recruiting physicians who have completed a family medicine residency by July 1, 2026.

This program is designed for recent graduates who are interested in having hospital medicine as part of their future practice and want to spend a year honing their skills with experts in both a community and an academic medical center. Great opportunity for those interested in academic family medicine.

Includes:

  • Exceptional benefits and compensation, four weeks of vacation, union protection
  • Close collaboration with the division of hospital medicine in Internal Medicine at UC Davis
  • Participation in UC Davis Health's Department of Family and Community Medicine didactics, Internal Medicine Grand Rounds, Emergency Medicine educational simulations encouraged
  • Teach family medicine residents hospital medicine in structured recurrent sessions
  • Attendance at UCSF’s annual hospitalist course, Fundamentals of Critical Care Support course, funding for other CME training activities
  • Dedicated time with VA attendings to work on QI projects
  • Dedicated career mentorship from hospitalists
  • ATLS and Out of OR Airway training
  • Optional continuity clinic
